Twelve clocks at five-minute times: on some children write the time shown, on others they draw the hands for a digital time. Small minute labels (5, 10, 15 … 55) around each clock help children count by fives while they learn. The Common Core standards ask 2nd graders to tell and write time to the nearest five minutes.
Drawing the hands is the real test: the hour hand has to sit the right distance past the hour (at 6:40 it's two-thirds of the way to 7). Once your child no longer needs the labels, turn them off above. Next stop: time to the minute.
Tips for using it
- Count by 5s from the 12 to find the minutes: each number is 5 more.
- When drawing, put the minute hand on first, then decide how far past the hour the hour hand goes.
