The tricky part is the hour hand at half past: it's halfway between two numbers. At 7:30 it points between 7 and 8, and the hour is still 7. Having both o'clock and half-past times on one sheet makes children look carefully at both hands. When this is easy, try quarter hours.
Tips for using it
- At half past, the minute hand points to 6, straight down.
- If the hour hand is between two numbers, the hour is the smaller one (except between 12 and 1).

An hour has 60 minutes, and half of 60 is 30. When the minute hand is on 6, it has gone halfway around, which is 30 minutes.
