Twelve clocks set to any minute, like 4:37 or 9:52, with all 60 minute tick marks drawn. The Common Core standards ask 3rd graders to tell and write time to the nearest minute.
The strategy is count by fives, then by ones: for 4:37, count 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35 to the 7, then two more ticks. Watch the hour hand, too: at 9:52 it's very close to 10. When reading is solid, try drawing the hands or elapsed time.
Find the hour from the short hand. For minutes, count by fives to the last number the long hand passed, then count the small tick marks one by one.
