Twelve clocks at any minute, half to read and half to draw. Drawing a time like 7:43 means placing the minute hand three ticks past the 8 and the hour hand most of the way to 8, which shows real understanding. The 3rd grade standard is to tell and write time to the nearest minute and solve problems about time intervals.
For the interval part, use 3rd grade elapsed time worksheets. For reading only, see time to the nearest minute. For a full-grade check, try the 3rd grade math review.
Close is fine: at 7:43 it should be clearly closer to 8 than to 7. The answer key shows the exact position.
