Fact ranges (0–5, 0–10, 0–20) for beginners, or 1- to 4-digit numbers for column addition. The two numbers can be different sizes.
Never for learning column addition, Always for practicing carrying, Some for a realistic mix.
Vertical stacks for column work, horizontal for mental math; 10 to 100 problems.
Print or download the PDF; the answer key follows on separate pages.
Choose First number and Second number. For facts, pick a range like 0–10; the two numbers can differ, so 0–20 plus 0–10 practices teen facts. For column addition, pick digit sizes: 2-digit plus 2-digit is 2nd grade, 3-digit plus 3-digit is 3rd grade, and 4-digit sums are 4th grade practice with the standard algorithm.
Regrouping is the setting that matters most for column addition. Never means no column adds to 10 or more, which is ideal when a child is learning to line up places. Always means every problem needs at least one carry. Some mixes them, so children have to decide each time, which is closest to real work. If the settings make regrouping impossible (like 0–5 plus 0–4 with Always), the generator tells you and relaxes the rule rather than printing a broken sheet.
Mixing in subtraction is the next step: try addition and subtraction worksheets and addition word problems.
Horizontal fact sheets fit 50 problems on a page for timed drills. For kindergarten and 1st grade, print fewer problems so the type stays large. The answer key prints after the problems; turn it off before printing if you don't need it.
If counting on fingers persists into 2nd grade, or carrying never quite clicks, the gap is usually number sense, not effort. Programs like Mathseeds, Math-U-See and Singapore Math build it with manipulatives and models, and XtraMath is a free daily fact fluency drill. Compare options in the best kindergarten math curriculum and the best elementary math curriculum. When a column adds to 10 or more, the ten moves to the next column. In 47 + 25, 7 + 5 = 12: write 2 and regroup the 1 ten into the tens column. It's also called carrying.
In the Common Core standards: add within 10 in kindergarten (fluent within 5), within 20 in 1st grade (fluent within 10), all one-digit sums from memory and adding within 100 in 2nd grade, and within 1,000 in 3rd grade.
Yes. Set Focus fact to 9. Every problem then adds 9, which is a great way to practice a single strategy like make-ten.
